Procrastination is the Result of Indulgent Emotion

Dr. Beth Brady • April 1, 2022

The power of using the Model in every aspect of your life is astounding!

The appreciation that everything you have, and what you don’t have, can be accounted for by your own thoughts and feelings, which determine your actions and results. When we are aware of our thoughts – and how they may be limiting our lives – we can see clearly that the feelings that are generated by our thoughts determine what we do – or don’t do.

Some feelings are compelling in the actions and results they generate for us. Some feelings, not so much.

We call the “not so compelling” feelings, “indulgent emotions”. What’s the difference? The end result. What are these indulgent emotions? Here are a few examples: worry, overwhelm, confused, anxious. Why do we call them indulgent emotions? They result in lack of action. They are emotions that keep us from moving forward, from growing, from succeeding, from living! Having an awareness of feeling an indulgent emotion, and the “stuck” result that causes in your life, can be the key to moving forward.

How many of us procrastinate? Have you ever asked yourself why? There can be a lot of reasons for putting things off – dreading the process/work, overwhelm at the tasks that loom ahead, fear of failure, perhaps even the idea that completing the task could leave you without a goal? The appreciation that a particular emotion is limiting our actions and results can be exactly what we need to change our thoughts and feelings to get “unstuck”. If a thought causes a feeling that leads to inaction – and no results – changing that thought is key to having a different/positive result. You have the power to do exactly that.

I am ready to help you become aware of thoughts that don’t serve you, and change your thoughts to result in a different life.
